Back to homeHello again! Is anyone else inspired by the beautiful weather we're having in Ohio right now? It's absolutely gorgeous out and to quote a friend, I feel like I have "warm weather ADD". What's that? It's when you are so energized by the bright sunny day that you just can't settle on one thing to do. "I can wash the car. I can mow the lawn. Or go golfing. Or weed the flower beds. Or I can clean out the garage. Or I can build the composte box. Or I could..." If this is you, I want you to stop, breathe, and remember that it's only MARCH!
Pick one thing that will make you happy and if you can do that one activity in this southern-style spring weather, go for it.
It's been a long while since I've posted some palettes. And with so much inspiration blooming, today seemed like a perfect time to post some new ones.

What a joy the holiday season is: the food, the wine, the time spent with family, getting time off work, festive decorations and Christmas songs, the holiday classic movies, A Christmas Story, which was filmed in our beloved Cleveland, Ohio, and all the other trimmings of the Christmas season. Sure it can be overwhelming. But instead of struggling to search for the perfect gift, give the one gift that can't be bought at the store, the gift of time. How precious and generous it is. Make this year the year to celebrate with people you know and love, or those you don't know but still need kindness and love. Don't let the holiday pressures get the best of you, instead relax, take ten, light a Root Candle and live in the moment and love the life that is happening around you.
That's just my thoughts on the holiday season. What are yours? What do you love about this magical time of year?
One thing for sure about Root Candles is every year we are launching new products for our customers. This time of year while the outside world is shopping and decorating for autumn and winter holidays we are putting the finishing touches on our spring and summer products for the following year.
I can't tell you in detail everything that is coming. When I can I promise you'll be the first to know. What I can tell you is that there will be new fragrances, new colors and a new a brand new line of candles. There's going to be some brand new favorites for you, I promise.
People have asked me before how do I choose a color for a candle. It's definitely a process and not just a wild guess. First of all, if the color is going with a fragrance it needs to make sense. For example, you wouldn't want a chocolate smelling candle in green wax, that's a mixed message from the eyes to the brain. Like the whole green ketchup thing, do you remember that awful stuff too? Creeped me out!
Trends are almost as important as the fragrance/color connection. If we don't deliver something great that our customers are looking for then it's no point to launch it. So this week I want to share some of the color inspiration images I've kept close by. The images are from an article on neat-o blog called redoitdesign, but the images are originally from Pantone.

The season is evidently changing. Chilly nights and blustery days in Northeast Ohio, home to Root Candles, are tell-tale that autumn is on the way in. We love the fall season at Root. It's one of the best times of the year to fill any space with flickering candles that fill the rooms with fruity and spicey notes.
Changing seasons is also a time to change out the decor in your home. I put together this fall-theme inspiration board to guide me as we were devloping something new for Root. I thought you might like to see it.

If you are on the hunt for new accessories for your home appropriate for the season, and if you're local, come check out the Root Candles Flagship store. Another thing about autumn is there's always something happening at the Root Candle store! Tonight we're hosting a Ladies' Night Out and in just a few weeks we'll be having our annual autumn sale. As the afternoons grow shorter, let's wrap up this post with a poem from an online resource, titled Flamboyant Autumn By Joanna Fuchs:
Autumn’s picturesque arrival
Is a colorful array
Of red and gold and orange,
In flamboyant, rich display.
The nights are getting cool;
Geese fly south in flocks,
As kids go back to school.
Winter still is dreaming
Of snow and icicles,
As we put away our swimsuits,
Our boats and bicycles.
Tell of cozy, crackling fires;
Fall is being born,
As summer now retires.
